The Communauté Emmaüs Lescar-Pau is the driving force of utopias. Being a committed and militant community, it places the actions of mankind at the centre of everything. As a totally independent micro-society, it receives no subsidies, because it wants to prove that alternative ways of society are possible. You, too, can take part in our utopian projects. Bring your contribution by joining us!
Whether you come for a week or even longer, over the course of your stay within our community, you will be able to discover the large range of activities that give meaning to the Community's energetic spirit. Based on waste-recycling, the workshops are numerous and varied: electronics, household appliances, woodwork, clothes, sales/retail...furthermore, the strength of our community comes from sharing our thirst for social alternatives, by trying out new things, like:
1. A farm adjacent to the Community is really taking shape. It was opened in August 2009. It relies on the values that founded our culture, by promoting local breeds of animals, like Gascon pigs, Gascon donkeys, the black-headed Manech sheep...
2.Eco-construction: out of concern for energy saving, for the comfort of each 'compagnon' and for the aesthetics of the Community, the eco-construction workshop was opened in in July 2008. Its mission: to renovate the village of the compagnons, since it was built rather urgently.
3. It is essential to be culturally committed in our search for new social, economic and political models. The opening of the Communauté Emmaüs Lescar-Pau is a way in which we can put up a fight so that everyone in society can benefit.
Homeless people in society will be able to stand on their own feet, and become involved in local, regional and even national goings-on in life. Everyone deserves a place in our society. The Emmaus Community is daily proof of this.
